Our Cosmic Adventure

Are you wondering what a Cosmic Adventure is? Well, the definition of adventure is an exciting or remarkable experience with an unknown or uncertain outcome. Then you add in the cosmic element and it becomes characterized by greatness in extent and intensity. To sum it up, a cosmic adventure is a great and intense experience with an unknown outcome that is exciting and remarkable. Frankly, I think we all need to seek cosmic
adventures in our life whenever we can.

If you know Tim at all, you know that he craves adventure. I am not sure what made him that way, but I would imagine it had something to do with that fact that he comes from a long line of adventure-seeking Moomaws. Tim’s Dad, Wade, wrote stories of helping round up wild horses, racing thoroughbreds, and hauling rodeo stock on railroad cars. Then there’s Grandpa Leo who chased cattle thieves, broke horses and mules for the Calvary in World War I, and eventually started his own stock contracting company. As a result, I think adventure seeking is in his DNA.
After Tim and I got married we started our adventures on a Gold Wing motorcycle. We took our first vacation down the Oregon coast and with God’s divine intervention survived some very sketchy situations. Then Tim started skydiving, I did not have any desire to get into that hobby, and frankly couldn’t afford it.

Then after we had been married 7 years, we started scuba diving together. Let’s just say, scuba diving in the dark blue ocean is a far cry from growing up in a dryland wheat farming community, but I loved it. I would get lost (literally) looking at the tiniest creatures and being rapt in amazement of the different types of fish that God had designed. We explored places that are not your typical vacation destinations. Tim calls them “rustic and remote”, but embraced every new experience with a new sense of adventure.
We now have the benefit of enjoying scuba diving with our daughter and her husband, Max. We were able to go to Florida and do some diving in the keys this December. It is so fun to breathe under water and be out in the ocean where you can see forever. It is also amazing to share your love for adventure with your family and friends as you experience new things together. I think we will be finding new places to explore as Max is totally hooked on scuba diving.
After attending church today, I was encouraged to think about 2020 and the wonderful things that have happened this year. Although this year had its fill of unfortunate and difficult times, there were many things I could reflect on and could be thankful for. I like to think the ranch is just another adventure that is challenging us to learn, grow and find joy and peace in whatever we do. Whether its spraying weeds, building fence, working the cows or fighting fires, we try to make the best of it and embrace these experiences as adventures.

There have been plenty of times in 2020 where God has shown himself in so many ways on the ranch. The beautiful sunsets, the vast landscape of mountains and meadows, and the protection from wildfire. Although the ranch is a lot of work, its simplistic and rugged beauty gives me a true sense of a cosmic adventure. My number one resolution for the New Year will be to stabilize my soul with the sovereignty of God because He reigns supreme over every detail of the universe including my cosmic adventures.
As for 2021, who knows what new adventures lie ahead. We continue to pray for a healing of our world from Covid, for the safety and wellbeing of our loved ones, and that God will show us where he wants us to serve Him and do His will. As we embark on the New Year, I want Psalms 31: 14-16 to be my mantra for 2021. But I trust in you, Lord; I say, You are my God. 15 My times are in your hands; …16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.
