I found this description of what a Personal Legacy is and I think it describes why Tim and I are trying to continue the Moomaw ranch. A Personal Legacy is more than simply a statement of how you wish to be remembered after you pass on. It is something that enriches your life and reveals you and what your life is about to your family, friends, and your community. As Tim and I embarked on our first year of being solely responsible for the Moomaw cows and ranch, I definitely felt a sense of being a part of the legacy that was left by Leo and Wade Moomaw. Leo Moomaw was one of seven children, born to Sam and Ellen Moomaw in Addy, WA in 1894. Although he suffered polio as a youngster, his love for horses helped him overcome the ill effects of the disease as he rode to gather the wild horses that roamed the area near what is now Chief Joseph Dam above Bridgeport. That was the start of his rodeoing career as a bronc rider, roper and later a stock contractor. Leo's legacy was one of hard work, determination and creativity as he helped start the Bernard-Moomaw Rodeo Company, in 1933. His story could definitely be made into a movie filled with adventure, suspense and thrilling action. More than his legacy of being a stock contractor, Leo left a legacy of ranching that was passed on to his son, Wade (Tim's Dad). Wade created his own legacy of ingenuity, a resolute work ethic and a passion for ranching. Alongside Wade, his wife, Aggie, was the ultimate helpmate and partner and probably the hardest worker I have ever known.
So that is what Tim and I have to live to up. This blog will be my thoughts and wonderings relative to making a record of our attempt to continue the legacy of the Bar X Ranch.

What a great idea Jill, I look forward to following along on your journey. Hugs to you and Tim.
